This book no doubt is unlike any book I’ve read before. It will have you swooning your heart out one minute and laughing your ass off another. With her sharp and witty writing, smart and sexy main characters, a hilarious best friend and a well-developed plot, Birthquake by B.L. Berry will easily be one of your favorite reads of the year.
I have been seeing this book on GoodReads for a while and have heard so many good things about it from other readers that it piqued my interest. Low and behold, a few days later, the author herself sends me the arc of the book and I honestly could not contain my excitement!!
After accidentally sleeping in by hitting snooze, Jeff finds himself rushing last minute to board the plane to Denver. Scurrying to find a seat, he lands himself right beside the women of his dreams.
This was the cutest meet ever! I’m not even kidding, I highlighted probably highlighted 50% of just the prologue if not more!!
“Uh… yeah, I’m kind of the master of fitting big things into tight spaces.”
While awkward, Jeff was adorably cute during their first meet. As the story progresses, we soon realize just how beautiful Jeff is, both inside and out. He truly is the man and such a perfect one at that.
Henley, on the other hand, is a woman that I think a lot of mothers can 100% relate to. I myself am not one and I believe had I been, it would have made my reading experience that much better.
She’s a natural disaster, all right. This woman is an earthquake with a heartbeat and a smile capable of shifting the earth beneath your feet, but powerful enough to bring your whole world crumbling down. It absolutely terrifies me. And all I know is I want more of it. Of her.
I wasn’t kidding when I said this book is unlike any I have read before. While this book was everything that you expect from a romance novel, it is also real. I love how the author did not sugarcoat the pregnancy process. The pain, the fears, the aftermath of afterbirth – none of it was fabricated. Yes, you may question how I can make such a statement if I haven’t been through it myself. Well, you see, pregnancy does come up often in this genre and I have read many. But none of them was as close to reality as this one is. It’s safe to say that I truly have learned a lot and I’m so glad that I got the opportunity to read this novel.
The only complaint I have is that we didn’t get to see how Jeff and Henley start dating and how their relationship develops. The book jumps straight into 5 months of their relationship and I will admit that I was left a bit confused. I personally would have loved to read more of how they started dating and fell in love.
Overall, I really enjoyed this novel and I would like to thank both B.L. Berry and her publisher for sending me a copy of Birthquake. It was the highlight of this month for me!
If all my blabbering hasn’t given it away yet, I highly recommend this book to all of you. Go and get yourself a copy and give it a read!
