The first book in the Lines in the Sand series, Inked Hearts by Lindsay Detwiler shows what it means to let the life you knew go to become your true self.
Every one of us at some point in our lives wanted to just pack up and leave all the gossip and people telling us what we should do.
Inked Hearts is about Avery who is brave enough to move across countries in search for a new truer version of herself, to create a life she wants.
Divorced at 28, she swore off men completely and instead is now focusing on being truly happy. She moves in with a roommate she met online, got a job waitressing, and tries to let go of her painful past while learning to enjoy her present.
Jesse is the kindest tattoo artist hero that I have ever read. Down to earth, he stole my heart right from the start. Holding on to the memory of his father, Jesse opens his tattoo parlor to follow his dreams at the place they frequented. A place his father loved dearly.
Jesse isn’t a stranger to heartbreak either and similar to Avery, he guards his heart too.
Due to their similar experiences though, they connect on a whole new level. Their personalities compliment each other and Jesse brings out the best in Avery.
Despite the strongly built walls around their hearts, they open up.
It may not be easy to love someone knowing that they have every power to bring you down, but sometimes its absolutely worth it.
I really liked Lindsay’s writing and her way of storytelling.
